NITA publishes a $170 Minnesota pre-assignment course, and Pro PI Academy publishes a $399 Georgia 70-hour course.
A short skills course is useful when you want a defined subject such as surveillance or report writing. It is not a substitute for a state-specific training requirement, a regulator registration, or a company licence.
State costs sit beside tuition, not inside it
Minnesota requires 12 hours of certified pre-assignment or on-the-job training within the first 21 days of employment, and requires six annual hours of certified continuing training. Minnesota's training statute also makes clear that training is a separate requirement from licensure. A new Minnesota private-detective licence costs $1,000 for an individual, while the listed two-year renewal for one employee is $540.
Georgia requires at least 70 hours of basic classroom instruction for private-detective applicants, according to the Georgia Secretary of State FAQ. Georgia's live official fee schedule lists a $45 initial unarmed detective-employee registration and a $400 initial private-detective-company total. Those are different routes, so they should not be added together by default.
Choose the route before paying for the course
If you are working for a Minnesota licence holder, start with the Minnesota pre-assignment training overview. If you are renewing in Minnesota, check your refresher hours by licence year before buying a course.
Texas is another reason not to treat a course as a universal licence package. Texas law generally requires an investigations-company licence applicant to show three consecutive years of investigative experience or meet another Commission-set route. A focused module can reduce upfront spending when you only need a specific skill. It is not a good fit when your employer, licence route, or state rule calls for a defined number of approved training hours. A diploma or university certificate adds structure and breadth, but costs more and may still be limited to the state pathway it names.
